The Last News

I’ve been waiting for a long time for C7 release. This did not happen. The last DevCon did not bring me no hope.
That’s why I froze this site.
I think when C7 become “Gold” I will return back… with news.

See you later!

The Quotable Bill Gates

Some of the most oft-repeated comments attributed to Bill Gates through the years were not uttered by Bill Gates. Take for instance “640K ought to be enough for anybody,” which he supposedly said in 1981 to note that the 640K bytes of memory in IBM’s PC was a significant breakthrough. Or his alleged comment that if General Motors “had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving [US]$25 cars that got 1,000 miles per gallon.”

DMC 1.4.0.1

I am very pleased to announce the release of a new version of DMC ( 1.4.0.1 dated 23/06/08)

New Feature : SQL Environment - work on any Data Base : - Query Builder Single or Multi Table - Export to TPS or SQL subsets - Viewer direct
access - Generate Random Data etc …
New Feature : Clone to DAT - DBF (DBase - Clipper and FoxPro)
New Feature : User option to display or not a Sum Up display screen of the Main Wizard (with canceling possibility)
New Feature : Direct access in Viewer to the last 25 Most Recently Used Tables (all formats)
Enhancement : All Data Management screens redesigned to accommodate more space (better visibility)
Enhancement : Data Management Task WIZARD - define step by step your task (change source and / or destination settings without loosing pace)
Enhancement : Create ODBC WIZARD
Enhancement : User option to read only first 50 records before reaching the Mapping tab
Enhancement : Define the Color of all List Box records
Enhancement : List of all SQL Key’s in Structure Tab - Structures stored in Clipboard
Enhancement : In Mapping tab : List by … processes changed to working on Queue’s (speed)
Enhancement : Processing of Columns to define if DATETIME’s are present also changed to working on a Queue (speed)
Fixed Bug : Clone to SQL - constraints where not always properly created
Fixed Bug : Removed the empty column in column list when creating a Key in ‘Create with Wizard’

This completely new version is primarily made to let the user be more at ease when working in DMC : we did receive some feedback from potential clents concerning the IDE : screens feeling too “foreign” for example or defining a simple task not easily enough ‘doable’

This is why all has been rewritten to accomodate a brand new WIZARD which will let you … LOVE DMC as all beta testers reported back :)

Are Delphi programmersa dying breed?

…It kind of feels to me like the days when I still was a Cobol programmer. That breed almost died, and of course as a contractor that made sure you got a good price for your work :-).

Real Snail Mail

snail.jpgOur snails are equipped with a miniaturised electronic circuit and antenna that enables them to be assigned messages from hardware located within their enclosure. The moment you click ‘send’ your message will travel at the speed of light to our snail server where it will await collection by a snail agent.

Once associated with the tiny electronic chip on the snails shell your message will be carried around until the snail chances by the drop off point. Hardware located at this point collects the message from the snail and forwards it to its final destination.

“Hulu is kicking Youtube’s ass” – Mark Cuban

Outspoken YouTube critic and billionaire Mark Cuban has announced in a recent blog post that “Hulu is kicking Youtube’s Ass” and he predicts Hulu’s total revenues will surpass YouTube’s by next year. The secret to Hulu’s success, according to Cuban, is its ability to monetize 100% of its content and that it can piggyback on YouTube by posting small clips of full shows for free.

AMD Makes An Evolutionary Leap In Linux Support

Less than a year ago we shared with you the revolutionary steps AMD was taking to deliver significant improvements to their once infamous proprietary Linux display driver and at the same time the work they were doing to foster the growth of an open-source driver for their latest graphics card families. These steps have certainly paid off for both AMD and the Linux community at large. AMD’s proprietary driver is now on par with NVIDIA’s Linux driver and there are two open-source ATI drivers picking up new features and improvements on an almost daily basis. AMD also continues to publish new programming guides and register information on a routine basis for their latest and greatest hardware. This has been truly phenomenal to see, but AMD has now evolved their Linux support by taking it a large step further. AMD is in the process of pushing new high-end features into their Linux driver — such as Multi-GPU CrossFire support — and with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 they have even begun showing off Tux, the Linux mascot, on their product packaging and providing Linux drivers on their product CDs!

DMC : Videos of upcoming features

As it seems a trend fashion to produce videos before releasing a new version no seriously …. (good news SV gave us these days).

A new version of DMC is under it’s way to you all and I wanted to let you ’see’ what you were going to get in it!

First the concept of source and destination tabs is dead.

A new WIZARD takes care of all this with and for you : you select any task you want done and walk through whatever steps are required before clicking on a Finish button to launch the task.

I also created a New ODBC create connection Wizard which is embeded in the main one so that you do not loose pace when in need of creating one.

The video is here (15mb) yes there is sound this time so for those of you not ‘knowing my sweet voice ….

Finally a HUGE new feature which will certainely make all SQL users VERY VERY happy : an SQL Query Editor.
In two words : a tremendous add-on to DMC as it lets you select any DB registered in DMC - do a double-clcic and list all tables in that DB.
Then another double-click on any Table will list all elements (Keys and Columns).
So you have the possibility to go from any DB (any SQL flavour) to any other and ’see’ all elements.

Here(8 Mb) is another video with sound again for you to ’see’ what you are receiving :)

Coming out soon on your screens :) (normally tomorrow or day after)

Merci for your time and feedback if you would like to comment on anything…..

Clarion Magazine Articles

Boost Compile Times By Putting The ABC Classes In Their Own DLL
Have you ever noticed now much time the IDE spends compiling the same ABC classes over and over again? The good news is you don’t have to waste that time if you don’t want to. Just isolate the ABC classes into their own library. But there’s a trick, as Benjamin Dell explains.

Creating Directories With #SERVICE
The Clarion template language provides a mechanism for calling DOS utlities such as MKDIR. But if your templates need to create directories the undocumented #SERVICE statement is more reliable.
