Application Generator status update

There’s a link to a short (~10 minute) video below, but let me provide an updated status report and sum up what you’ll see if you follow the link.

Our current focus regarding Application Generator testing is on .App conversions.
Our goals for App conversion are simple:
1) Upgrading an App to version 7 should be as simple as opening your old App – that’s it
2) The conversion should include updating your Dictionary to the new version 7 format
3) Conversion should be perfect — in other words, what you had before is identical to what you have after conversion

Seats still available for the Aussie DevCon

We’ve received a great response for the Aussie DevCon but a few seats are still available. With 3 top line SoftVelocity developers including
Robert Zaunere delivering training, up to the minute information, and presentations (see here), together with over AUS$22,000 worth of 3rd Party give-away prizes (see here), ths has got to be an event not to be missed. See here for further details. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me.

Clarion Sharper By The Minute, Linq Support

So, basically Bob’s information says “Support for Linq is being added to Clarion#.”. You think is great? I think it’s a waste of time NOW. Perhaps Linq is wonderful, but I seriously DOUBT I can be more productive with Linq than with an Application Generator. We need the Application Generator, I cannot even start using the thing without it - much less take any advantage of having Linq.

Australian DevCon 2008

Well the big question on everyone’s lips is when are we going to see the code generators in action for both C7 and Clarion.net. Well I can tell you. At the Aussie DevCon in May. Is this going to be just a little taste? Well Bob Z is excited enough about the development that he’s coming all the way out here to show us. More than that he reckons it’s really worth while showing non-clarion users too. So if this news isn’t good enough I’d like to throw a bit more your way. Being the sweet talker I am I’ve been able to get costs right down. So the early bird price for the DevCon is only going to be $300. But wait there’s more. For every non-clarion user you manage to encourage to come too I’ll take another $100 off your registration fee. That’s right, encourage 3 or more and your fee is zero. But wait there’s still more. This price includes free lunch and dinner for the entire period of the DevCon. Offer excludes steak knives.

For more information on the Aussie DevCon start here.

Best Regards,
Geoff Spillane

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I’d like to be the first Clarionite to wish Clarion 7 Alpha it’s very first HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (cheers arise from the audience)

Yes folks, after almost 3 years of development, the nascent Alpha was announced on February 23rd 2007 to the thankful Clarion masses, who just happenned to be eagerly awaiting C7 Gold that most thought would be out in the 1st Quarter. Alpha was released in Phase I of IV, and just recently it appears to have made it *all the way up* to Phase II. WAY TO GO GUYS!
Congratulations and cigars to all that worked so long and hard in reaching that monumental plateau. It’s wonderful to see such progress, and I’m sure we will all be wishing gool ol’ Alpha Happy Birthday for years to come.

ABonds

ps
We all drank vodka in Russia in honor of this day :)

In the Next C7 RTL Update

We’ve been tweaking the C7 RTL with an eye towards improved visuals. Nothing can be more aggravating than a UI that flickers when some user initiated action, an event, or code causes a repaint. To that end in the next build we’ll be releasing changes in the RTL to optimize the redrawing of controls and suppress background flicker on activating or resizing of a window. This change isn’t like the UI enhancements we previously implemented to theme all controls, or the fancy new Menu styles, this one is about what you don’t see.

ClarionMagazine: Understanding Clarion# Strings

There are some significant differences between Clarion strings and .NET strings. Clarion# introduces the ClaString class, which for the most part allows Clarion# to use strings the same way classic Clarion uses strings. Here’s what you need to know about this new data type.
